Brown Sugar Cookies

We printed this recipe off the internet years ago and the web site it came off of is not even active, so we can't quote it! We've put it to good use time and time again, and have also passed it onto clients who have used it for their events, so it's been tested! We hope you like it.

Brown Sugar Cookie Recipe

Makes about 4 dozen if you use a small scoop.

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
Nuts to taste (we usually use 1 cup of shopped walnuts)

Cream the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla and beat well. Mix together dry ingredients separately. Combine with wet ingredients a little at a time, combining well. Then add nuts.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake in 350-degree oven for 6 to 8 minutes. (We baked for 10 minutes on insulated baking sheets. The cookies will puff up, then flatten.)

These are also a lot of fun to arrange for presentation. Use colored scrapbooking papers to cascade them on. Or use heirloom plates and platters from your family's collection. Little baskets lined with colorful paper napkins work well too. Or, as favors, you can put them in small velumn bags or minature Chinese food take out containers. Have lots of fun!
